Romeo and Juliet as a Musical - Oy

Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite plays ever. I have reviewed with a traditional all-male cast. I have reviewed it with a female - male cast. I have seen it with Orlando Bloom. I've seen it on Broadway and way way off-Broadway.

It's like the opposite of green eggs and ham.

I have seen the Baz Luhrmann version with Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. I have seen the Zeffirelli version. I saw the translation of the story in Private Romeo, Shakespeare in Love, and "& Juliet".

What I am saying is that I like Romeo and Juliet and I am more than happy to watch the Shakespeare show (clocking in over 3 hours) or a modern redo.

But this. This looks like a piece of Disney-fied, dumbed-down fluff. With music, but missing the spark. It is a bit painful to watch if you love the original.  I know plenty of people find the play and the iambic pentameter nearly impossible to watch.

But... well, you watch and see for yourself.
