The Golden Globe nominations are out and speak to the newly expanded expectations from international critics. The Globes have added more international critics, many from outside the traditional rich European media. To be honest, the Globes judges were always an odd crowd, very much nominating people who paid them off or who they wanted to meet from the industry. That old way of thinking would have guaranteed nominations for the likes of Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool or Meryl Streep for ONly Murders in the Building.
On the other hand, a few of the nominations ar head-scratching. I won't get into them, because it is mostly a matter of taste.
However....
It does seem quite odd that Hugh Grant was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his work in Heretic.
Heretic is a horror/thriller about a crazy atheist (Grant) who abducts and threatens/tortures two young female Mormon Missionaries. One may argue about it's merits - some people love it and other hate it - but it would be harder to argue it is a "comedy".
