As long as we are talking about this...

For my friends in England, you may not know that outpouring of anger at our health care system in general, the random approval rejections that make no sense, the nightmare logistics that accompany any procedure, and the gnawing feeling that you will die if they decided tomorrow your issue isn't covered.

This has led to some introspection of the chattering classes on why we (the public) are so awful and callous. Like anything, the opinion writer picks their personal crusade and uses that as their reason.*

But there is another reason why this incident is a lightning rod. The second aspect is the perceived value of his life - compared to us schlubs.

In a country where most murders go unsolved, the resources of the entire city and much of the media and state police were flexed to find Mr. Magione. How many murders of "unimportant" people are not solved? Not only not solved, but forgotten.

Resources worth millions were used to find Mr. Magione, But every day, there are murders and killings that are ignored, essentially giving the public the "What are you going to do?" shrug.

This one murder not only tells us daily our lives are worth less than theirs, but that the NYPD, NY State Police, the Media, and the Federal government agree his death is worth so much more than us normal people. It is illustrated by the multi-million dollar manhunt for him, and the complete silence of the murder of "normals."

(He steps off his soapbox.)

* I mean that some will blame the fall in religion - they do for everything. Some claimed that the killer was an illegal immigrant before anything was found out. Some people are already blaming TikTok. Others blame TV shows where outlaws are justified. They look at this incident through eyes predisposed to find a facet that fits into their idea of what is wrong with the country. Full disclosure, I do to.
