Vonnegut Quotes

The Blinkist ran a set of Kurt Vonnegut quotes. I don't know if everyone has access to The Blinkist, so I will copy them here. I love his books and thought process, so I am going to share.

He is the Stoic of today. Well, the Stoic of the late 1900s, since he est mort.

Enjoy

We are here on Earth to fart around. Don’t let anybody tell you any different.

Kurt Vonnegut This quote emphasizes the idea that our purpose on Earth is not necessarily to constantly strive for productivity or conform to societal expectations. Instead, it suggests that we should embrace a more relaxed and carefree approach to life. The quote encourages us to prioritize enjoyment, spontaneity, and being true to ourselves, rather than getting caught up in the pressures of society or the pursuit of external validation. It reminds us to not let others dictate how we should live our lives and to embrace the freedom to simply “fart around” and find joy in the present moment.

A sane person to an insane society must appear insane.

Kurt Vonnegut

This quote highlights the challenging and often misunderstood nature of individuals who question or challenge societal norms. It suggests that when someone’s thoughts or actions deviate from what is considered “normal” by society, they may be labeled as insane or irrational. However, this quote encourages us to consider that sometimes it is the society itself that is flawed or irrational, and those who are deemed insane may actually be the ones who see the truth or have a different perspective. It prompts us to question the status quo and not be afraid to stand out or be labeled as “insane” in order to bring about positive change.

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.

Kurt Vonnegut offers a thought-provoking insight into the power of our actions and the role they play in shaping our identities. This quote suggests that our outward behaviors and the roles we assume have a direct impact on who we become. It serves as a reminder to be mindful of the personas we adopt and the values we embody, as they ultimately shape our true selves. Vonnegut’s quote encourages us to be intentional in our choices and to consider the long-term consequences of the roles we play in our lives

Kurt Vonnegut

Once again, Kurt Vonnegut presents a thought-provoking observation about the state of society and the potential consequences of our actions. This quote highlights the fear and concern that can arise when individuals who may not possess the necessary skills or knowledge are entrusted with positions of power. Vonnegut’s words serve as a reminder that the decisions made by those in authority can have a profound impact on our lives and the direction of our society. It urges us to be mindful of the choices we make and the individuals we elect to represent us, emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making and responsible leadership.

Kurt Vonnegut

This quote, from Kurt Vonnegut’s works, provides a witty observation about the nature of intelligence and perception. It highlights the prevalence of individuals who excel at creating an illusion of intelligence, often through cleverness or manipulation. Vonnegut’s quote reminds us to be cautious of those who may appear smarter than they truly are, urging us to look beyond surface-level impressions and seek genuine intelligence and wisdom in others. It serves as a reminder to value substance over appearances and to approach intelligence with discernment.

Kurt Vonnegut

This line emphasizes the importance of recognizing and appreciating the presence of goodness and decency in the world, even in the midst of a society that may seem indecent or morally compromised. It reminds us that acts of kindness and decency can be found in unexpected places and in ordinary people. By acknowledging and celebrating these individuals, we can find hope and inspiration, and work towards creating a more compassionate and just society.

Kurt Vonnegut
