These are the reasons we (okay, I) don't trust things will turn out "Ok"

You may wonder why I am so convinced that it is my America is causing me angst right now.

This is the splash page for CNN this morning.

Let's look at the red triangles.

  1. Donald Trump has been in court to fight the release of documents he should have no control over. It has been decided and appealed twice already, and he is appealing further. This is remarkably similar to his constant fight over releasing his tax filings to Congress (as required by US law). The taxes fight, still not finished, has been going on for 5 years.
  2. Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers (and a teammate) violated Covid rules. Lied about it to the NFL and media. He was obviously lying and was fined for it by the NFL. His fine is equal to 1/1600th of his annual salary, or approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes of his pay.
  3. There were 13 senior Trump officials that violated the Hatch Act. The Hatch Act is the law, and 13 people violated it. No fines, no charges, no consequences. In fact, Trump's Chief of Staff stated that "the public does not care about the Hatch Act". The same reasoning didn't stop tens of millions of tickets that Americans paid for, during 55 mph speed limit. Which, again, "the public did not care about". AND, of these, only 1 actually threatens our democracy.

And this DOES not cover the fact that Steve Bannon ignored and continues to ignore a Congressional Subpoena. Again, with zero fucking consequences.

So who does pay for consequences when a law is crossed? Normal people.
