People are coming out of the wood work to blame Biden for "losing" Afghanistan. Both liberal and conservative commentators. To which one must call bullshit.
What is happening to Afghanistan and the Afghan people right now is horrible. But the liberal and conservative handwringing here is super overdone.

You know who is to blame for screwing up Afghanistan? The Taliban. We are finally taking the stated purpose and goal of the Afghan debacle seriously. Bush's goal was to remove Afghanistan as a base for terrorism outside its borders. And we have done that.
You know who "lost" Afghanistan?
Bush and his team (Cheney and Rumsfeld) when they moved our troops to Iraq before finishing the job in Afghanistan. They had 7 yeas.
Obama and his team (minus Biden) when they kept up a wrong headed war, after getting shit for leaving Iraq. They had 8 years.
Trump and his team despite promising to leave Afghanistan during his campaign and Presidency. (As you may or may not remember, this as one of the things I applauded Trump for. But them the generals cut his legs out under him.) He had 4 years.
Military men who promised a win "just around the bend". Who refused to let Obama or Trump leave, and went to the press to stop it. They had 20 years.
Our system of military, where those that fight for the USA are ignored because it is a volunteer force and "out of sight / out of mind" for the vast majority of Americans.
Not Biden who argued for leaving under Obama, but he was outvoted by the generals. Not Biden for finally doing what he promised on the campaign trail. Not Biden who asked who among us was willing to go and die for semi-democracy in Afghanistan.
