At the Akureyri Art Museum, we saw a lot of local art. To be honest a lot of bad local art.
But we also saw a wonderful show by Erró, a local who was trained overseas and travels extensively. He uses images and pictures to create a college, and then paints the college in a neo-realistic way. Very cool.
For example:

These are the Gemini Astronauts, along with an image of the lander on the moon and the woman is from an old Spanish master.
|
He also did an entire sequence about Mao's great march. The idea behind it was to show the Great March overtaking the whole world. It isn't that he is a communist, but found the juxtaposition of the Chinese Propaganda art, set in various western worlds interesting.

The Great March enters Florence. |

With symbols of the western world |
His latest picture venture further into the college territory, often military images against a mixture of backdrops.

I loved it. The colors the vibrancy and the super varied choices of subjects for his paintings.
Too cool !
