The news is full of "wild temperature swing" stories this week.
It was 93 in New York on Wednesday and 53 in New York on Thursday. I think it is all kind of silly, since in the Desert - and even in Los Angeles itself - day / night swing of 40 degrees isn't very unusual at certain times of the year.
But then, at the first sign of rain, LA goes into "Storm Watch!" and makes our weather people stand at the beach like it is the apocalypse, while people are surfing behind them.
And all of us are in the pink compared to my mother. A rare September Blizzard dropped up to 3 or 4 feet of snow in her neighborhood.
(From On Tyranny) 2. Defend institutions. It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of "our institutions" unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. They fall one after the other unless each is defended from the beginning. So choose an institution you care about -- a court, a newspaper, a law, a labor union -- and take its side.
