Last Week, my header quoted the first point of the book On Tyranny". It is a pamphlet outlines how to avoid tyranny when a government puts personal advancement before the good of the country.
The first point is :
1. Do not obey in advance. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.
This is worse, in my opinion, now that the media is doing this to maintain access to the government.
ABC settled a very winnable lawsuit from Trump for $15 Million. CBS is in talks to pay millions for a lawsuit against the TV magazine of "60 Minutes" who dared broadcast a Kamala Harris interview when he refused to do the show. Meta (Facebook) paid $22 Million to capitulate on a lawsuit and promise to no longer fact-check news or posts and allow all content, including called LGBT people as mentally ill.
The Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post owners have overrode opinion and investigation pieces that might offend Trump.
Social media has sold its soul to avoid anger. The social media of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and the media empires of Google and Amazon.
States and municipalities have passed laws to pre-emptively support any action against illegal migrants. Often in direct opposition to the US Constitution.
A new header is coming tomorrow.
