What if Trump is a Blessing?

 Stick with me. What if Trump is actually a blessing?

Here is my thinking: Trump 1.0 was a walkup call to many people on how to spot serious anti-democracy activists. He wasn't particularly effective in taking over the government. Still, he gave big tax breaks to rich people, loaded the Supreme Court, and flamed (but lost) an insurrection that would allow him to stay on after losing the 2020 Presidential election.

At the end of this period, many of us thought Americans had woken up to the threat. We moved on metaphorically and lived like no changes were needed.

We were wrong. Now, Trump 20 is on us, and I expect that the attacks on "libs" will make his base happy. But his base might get turned off if he abandons them (like with anti-immigration vs H1-B). Too much anti-populist action MAY turn off his base. If that happens, we must embrace people - not stand back and say, "I told you so."

Despite most everything, Trump is still less a tyrant than a big, insecure narcissist. His picks for the cabinet are almost comically bad and evil.  Maybe his crude attempts at "illiberal" democracy will fail due to incompetence. Hopefully we will learn our lesson before someone truly delusional AND effective takes power.
