Okay, maybe it is a bit ironic, but it is some very bad news for the world.
Let us look at this from a slightly different angle. By the time the sea level rises this much, the world will still run on oil. It is funny to say that your oil is killing your ports. But the reality won't be funny at all.
Let me count the ways:
1. The oil trade is critical to the world's economy and the companies that make obscene profits. This isn't going to change for a long time, so tremendous construction will be needed to keep these ports viable.
2. The money to keep Ports viable cannot be used for anything else. That is trillions of dollars sucked up from governments that don't go towards helping the people displaced by sea level rise.
3. New access will require some dangerous operations. For example, Houston and the Houston Ship Canal are located right at sea level, which allows access to oil refineries. The Ship Canal must be reinforced and raised as sea levels rise. Now imagine a breach in the new, higher canal. It would swamp Houston with seawater until the breach was resolved. (Much of Houston is only 4 - 6 inches above sea level now.)
4. All the old infrastructure will be toxic and now underwater, and vast swathes of the ocean will become permanently dead
So, not ironic, just incredibly sad.
