The reimagining of the Salton Sea

I have spoken about the Salton Sea before. An accidental lake that has been shrinking, getting saltier, and receiving insecticide via farming runoff.

But they are doing something that I thought was odd, but it seems to be working.

Looks stupid, but works.

The soil / sand under the lake has been exposed as the lake shrinks. It is devoid of life and blows away during the wind. Well, a team is trying to restore the plant life in the stupidest way possible, but it works. they are putting out hay bales to slow the and hold moisture a bit after a rain. They have seen the desert pop back a little with local plants. It is interesting.

With the plants, birds are coming back (see picture).
