 Is it me, or is this illustration ... ban-able.

If you click and check the larger image in the story, because you think it must be a mistake. You will see that no, it is as it appears. 

And the story is a question from letter writer is about a co-worker lying about their sales numbers, not what you think. so I think somebody might have snuck this image in.
