I have changed the order of #3 and #4, because I think the one below sets the stage for the rest of the meditations.
4: In the introduction of the Gregory Hays translation (my favorite translation) I was first introduced to the distillation of Stoicism into three distinct disciplines (perception, action, will). When I get asked to explain the three disciplines, this is usually my short answer: See things for what they are. Do what we can. Endure and bear what we must.
