Usually I quote the Stoic, but in this case, I am going to use the explanation from Ryan Holiday's book The Daily Stoic.
How much more time, energy and pure brainpower would you have available if you drastically cut your media consumption? Hoe much more rested and present would you feel if you were no longer excited and outrage by every scandal, breaking story, and potential crisis (many of which never come to pass anyway).
Ryan Holiday translating Epictetus.
Epictetus is not suggesting that we ignore the world. He says Yes, you owe it to your country and your family to know generally about any events that may directly affect them, but that's about all.
I have tried to do that by ignoring much of the manufactured daily outrage. But it gets harder day by day. And I have to try harder to ignore things I worry about, even if I can't effect them.
Like this bullshit from Florida that I cannot effect.
