When I was in middle school, I qualified for (and needed) the free lunch program. Actually for me it was the free breakfast program. Different schools.
But the Biden administration said that IF you provide a free lunch for low income children, you have to provide it for gay students as well. They said this due to recent Supreme Court Decisions.
Now I think this was already happening quietly, but since it was now made official policy many religious schools have declined funding and will no longer feed anyone. Which is frankly weird as hell, because private religious schools won't enroll kids that are LGBT or have LGBT parents, so this should not be a problem to begin with. It is a public relations stunt that the Catholics are using to prove they hate fags.
But letting Church schools isn't fucked up enough for Republicans. Twenty-two Republican controlled states are suing the federal government because they don't want to feed poor gay kids. They need to prove they hate gay kids at least as much as the Catholic Church. REALLY.
These 22 Republican lead states would rather every low income child loses their lunch than feed kids that are or might be gay.
The 22 states that signed on to the case are Tennessee, Indiana, Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.
