Olana

Again, from this week-end. We visited Olana. This is a house that was used by Fredrick Church ofthe painters of the "Hudson School". I have included a painting by church just below.

The "Hudson School" was famous for landscape images.

Olana is set at the top of a peak just outside the city of Hudson (about 30 minutes south of Albany). It was built in the "Orientalist" style in 1870. It is one of the few remaining artists' home/studio remaining. It was purchased and given the the New York Historical Society in 1966.

We didn't go in (mix up in entry times), but we did walk around and saw the vistas he painted.

Two goof asses

The detail is amazing. And the odd veiny rock wall is repeated everywhere
