Leaving Afgahistan

Finally.

I have banged on that we should leave Afghanistan from 2012 through George W Bush, Obama and Trump. Our stated goal, from president (W) Bush when we entered Afghanistan was "remove Afghanistan as a base of operations for Al Queda". It was not to destroy the Taliban. It was not to build a new nation. As great as it was, our mission was not to make Afghanistan safe for girls to go to school. All great ideas, but NOT the reason we attacked Afghanistan.

In fact, Bush told the Taliban the the United States would NOT invade, if the Taliban would kick out Al Queda. (W) Bush achieved our stated result quickly and we began mopping up actions. 

And there we would have left, heads held high, but for* Donald Rumsfeld's cheering, Cheney's leading the charge and Bush's ego over "what they did to my Dad!" drive to go into Iraq. They turned their attention from Afghanistan to the opportunity to run into Iraq, with Afghanistan providing a local base.

Now we appear weak as we leave Afghanistan with the promise that the Taliban will not allow in Al Queda again (they hate ISIS already).

It was a stupid idea to try and nation build in a country that bogged down England (when it was a world power), the Soviet Union and now us.
