It is essentially an armed anteater that, when threatened, curls up. That works great for their predators in the forest, but not so good against humans. And some people, particularly in China, like pangolin meat. They are almost impossible to breed in captivity, and very threatened.
Turns out, they had a trick up their sleeves - Covid19.
