Change in Header: On Tyranny Point 5

 I have changed my header to the 5th point from On Tyranny: Remember Professional Ethics:

Remember professional ethics. When political leaders set a negative example, professional commitments to just practice become important. It is hard to subvert a rule-of-law state without lawyers, or to hold show trials without judges. Authoritarians need obedient civil servants, and concentration camp directors seek businessmen interested in cheap labor.

Well this is awkward.

Subservient action towards inclusion and merit-based processes has been attacked. Universities and companies have dropped the standard that hiring should be based on merit. The Department of Government Efficiency has claimed billions of dollars in savings that are not there at all. Our commitments to aid, federal contractors, veterans, and more belie 'just practices.' I could go on, but you get it.

Even worse is the subservience of the military to political goals.  BTW, if you didn't hear, our Fox Department of Defense has just ordered 3,000 more military and 2,000 armored attack vehicles to the Southern Border. Illegally, but it doesn't seem like anyone cares.

This administration has found plenty of lawyers willing to drop standards to pursue political actions, not legal ones. For example, ending the prosecution of Eric Adams (New York's Mayor) for supporting turning in aliens, both legal and illegal.

As for Judges. Judges that stand up for the rule of the law have been targeted for impeachment. Impeachment of judges is almost impossible and is very rare. What the administration has done instead is to appeal until they hit a judge that allows actions - including the Supreme Court.

Civil servants in key positions must show loyalty or get fired. Entire departments have been axed if they don't follow this administration's desires instead of the stated and legal purpose.

This sucks.
