Ed and I are back from Iceland. It was a great chance for the two of us to get away and in a beautiful setting. We were in the north of Iceland, in the 2nd biggest city, Akureyri - with 16,000 people (Reykjavik has approximately 350,000). The area was very cool. I'll post some highlights.
As you will see, we were almost at the Arctic Circle and had fantastic luck with weather. It was sunny and in the low 70s at least part of every day.

Actual pictures we took in Iceland |
But one of the biggest thrills was seeing the nesting grounds of the puffins. I have tried to travel to see puffins before, and we have, from a boat, far from the coast. At the Tjörnes Peninisula on the Arctic Ocean, is the breeding ground of Eider Ducks, Arctic Terms and the popular Puffins. I made some general plans for each day, and then Ed detailed out. He found this.

Eddie scoping out the birds. They are not particularly afraid of people. |

My best Puffin shot. They were about 25 feet away from us. |
|
Same group of Puffins, but one was actively ignoring me ;-) |

They raise their chicks in these burrows right on the cliffs (trust me RIGHT ON the cliffs). |

This is what the peninsula looked like on the walk to the birds. |
Amazing!
